YOU PREFER????
I have been working in Year 1 until recently, just been changed to year 2.
There seems to be alot more attitudes forming in year 2 pupils and they seem alot harder work.
Don't know if it's just the time of year or if year 2 is always harder????
They do alot more learning and getting ready for year 3 and we are getting alot of emotional kids saying they can't do it anymore.
I am working with lower ability children who were starting to progress nicely but seem to ahe gone back to old ways.
Any others had experience? |

I agree. From my experience, year 2 pupils seem to have a lot more pressure due to the sats and I think this daunts most of them, particularly those ones who aren't progressing as well as what they should be. I know that the teachers get stressed out and the pupils pick up on this. This is a time when bad behaviour seems to become even more so.
I am working in year 1 at the moment and although the lower ability can find literacy and numeracy difficult, in the afternoons they get to go in the role play area and do other activities, which they get a choice in doing.
Perhaps the main cause is those dreaded sats. |

Year 2 is not so different. I have worked in both and was a bit apprehensive about year2 at first as I had only worked with foundation stage and year 1. I have found them to be fine and really enjoyed it. Remember that if you are starting in yr 2 in September then they are really just the yr 1's you were used to, as they will only just have moved on. You will be moving with them. |

I work in a year 1/2 class and find that there isnt a lot of difference maybe because they are together. I would say though that year 2 children are starting to find their feet and test bounderies more.

I agree!
I'm the same as vicki, sometimes though i think being in this mixed year group there is more pressure on the yr1's.
Although I can honestly say I love it! |

I've worked in both years and enjoyed them both. Although I can safely say I prefer working with older children. _________________ Lucybelle |
