The teacher has given me a copy of the dfes 'letters and sounds' to look at. Read 'Phase One' and up to now I already knew and practiced the stage before. The teacher is only a few years off retirement and although is an exceptional teacher is a bit of an prefectionist. Whiles concentrating on what she is doing world war three could be breaking out behind her. She has a reputation in school as never having anything done on time, i.e reports only handed out on the last day of term.

I am hoping to find out as much as possible to do with the recording/profiles of the children to help her out. Sorry to be a bit vage, I'm just greatful for any info you could give me.

Thanks
Busybee

Thanks for the links and I love the idea of the observation wall, will have to talk to teacher about it. The teacher has observation forms when you are doing an activity with a group but I might think of a simple form to have on hand at all times to quickly jot down those spontanous moments.

Thanks again

we use post it notes and try to link it to the areas of learning ie
we would write a note etc

date name of child
child initated activity- outside play on scooter
fred can ride a scooter using control and balance to turn, stop and start etc
link to physical area of learning - sense of space, using large equipment and able to control of large motor skills .

We then file these individual obs into their profiles
sorry if not all completely correct now in holiday mood

Hi!

Finding all of this really useful and interesting! I am going to work in reception 4 afternoons per week from September - I work with Y4/5 in the mornings so it will be quite a change!! I suggested some training may be useful but it seemed to fall on deaf ears!! Sad Having said that, they offered it to me because they thought i would be good in there!! Very Happy
Time will tell!! Rolling Eyes

Just printed off some sheets from the QCA site, 'Foundation Stage Profile Handbook' so I will have to study them. Only printed off the pages I need, not got enough paper left to print all 130+.

Would recommend you take a look 'madmum'.

Does your Reception teacher have a file on each child? The teacher I will be working with said today she has file on each child, file on each group(four groups) and class file.

I think she is doing too much. Today we were shown how to enter the profile targets into software which in turn at the end of term it produces a report. The teacher then asked if she could edit the reports (which are adequate) so she could enter more to them. She really does make work for herself and won't be told.

What files do you keep and how/when do you transfare the observations to them?

Any advice would be grateful, I could then pass this no to the teacher as she is working herself to the ground.
