Hi all Smile
Anyone fancy exchanging snail-mail postcards with our year 3 class? They have a very limited grasp of UK geography and getting postcards from other places in the UK might just help. We've stuck up a map of the British Isles, got them to help me place the names of the countries today and help to paint some flags to go round the edges. (Thank goodness for N being a wiz at drawing dragons!) A few real postcards from elsewhere to stick round the edges to mix with some they've drawn would be great.
We promise to return the favour Smile
Reply here and I'll send you our address in a private message. Thanks

Where abouts in the NW are you? I'm in Huddersfield so if you want any from the area I'm happy to oblige, however there wouldn't be much point if you're only t'other side of the hill!!

PM me if you would like some from Shetland. I had to look it up on a map before we moved here! Mum and Dad had this great idea of moving us from Cornwall to the ends of the earth - or so it seemd at the time! Wink Do you want me to send them from me or get some of the kids to do it?

We did a project a couple of years ago when 'Hetty Hen' came to visit the school. Hetty is a toy hen who had a rucksack, sleeping bag, chicken food and a letter of introduction. The story was she had been travelling the world and had come to our school to stay for a while. Each child got the chance to take her home for a night and take a photo or 2 with a disposable camera, they then wrote their 'Hetty Adventures'. I posted a similar request to this one on a couple of boards I am a member of and Hetty started to get postcards from all over the world. Places she had supposedly visited. Some people even sent the souvenirs they had been 'looking after' for her until she got to our school. One person even posted her 'friend' a toy horse who wanted to see Shetland, others ent a series of cards over a few weeks. There are some very kind people out there. We had a display of the world map and all the cards and letters - the postie was almost mugged daily for a while by children hoping for the next card. Good fun.

The postcards are displayed with a photocopy of the back with the message. There are also letters and emails. Each one has a different sticker with a corresponding one on the map to show where it came from. There was another display with the children's stories and paintings of Hetty.

And one of scanned copies of postcards they designed and sent to the old school of sisters in our class.

Hetty got to meet new friends that the older class hatched as part of their topic:
