I don't know if anyone can point me in the direction of any good ideas.

Basically I am 1 to 1 with a Yr 4 boy with Aspergers. He has a reputation for *not liking* PE, but as far as I can unpick, it is more that he doesn't like activities he considers "silly", or activities which are heavily teamwork or competing against other people. Competeing against himself seems fine.

Anyway - his class this term are doing netball and basketball, and it turns out they are fiercely competitive. Last lesson did NOT go well, and the child initially gave the main activity a go (he thought the warm ups were stupid though - which doesn't surprise me, becuase it was all "move like a...." which he was never going to warm to), but quickly gave up the main activity because he fel;t the other children having the ball was "unfair".

So, anyway. The teacher has asked me to take a small group of children (my 1 to 1 lad, his best friend and another child who finds it hard to join in PE) and do something PEish with them. She siad anything is fine, as long as it is vaguely in line with the core tasks.

Help! I know nothing about this. I am perfectly willing to give it a go, but I am not really sure where to start. Can anyone give me any ideas, or should I go back to her and ask for help? I would prefer to work something out without asking for help from the teacher though, except just to check that my plan is OK, sa it is not a teacher I see other than once a week.

Does anyone have any cool ideas to grip a small group of hard to motivate and not terribly well coordinated children? Or any resources I could use to develop something?

Thanks!

I am assuming by vaguely in line with key tasks it means netball ...........

So what about ball skills, bouncing on the floor (kinda baseball move), target practice, catching between the children, eerrrrrrm

Moving into / out of space - dribble the ball around an obstacle course... he can compete with himself - how quickly/slowly can you do it. (can also use as a warm up/down)

Target practise... how many times can you shoot / bounce the ball into the target in 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes... increases/decrease time & difficulty as ability dictates - target nets, or hoops, or...

Passing the ball - bounce passing, push passing - again at a target or to a partner / trio... try forming a triangle, they can all have a ball and pass at the same time.

If you have a sturdy enough wall... place a hoop a distance away from it, child stand behind hoop, push passes ball onto target on wall such that it bounces back into hoop and back to child... how many can you in a given time?

Or reverse, bounce pass ball out of hoop onto target, back to child.

Just a few quick things off the top of my head.

Circuits if the netball basketball isn't working and then incorporate some ball skills in the circuit. Personal best times perhaps.
