I am teaching R.E again.. the planning ive been given is boring and exactly the same as last yrs!!

Last week i introduced the unit and discussed wat they were going to learn. One of the tasks was to write about the headteacher and her responsibilities!! Some of the children didnt really know who she was.. and all they know is that she is the headteacher n she tells the children wat to do! lol

After we did a large thought shower to try and collect ideas (this wasnt on the plan, i thought it might help) they were a little clear but they couldnt write simple sentences unaided! I asked them to draw a pic of her in their books and we wrote a sentence underneath together, still covering the success criterea.

Tomorrow the task is... (word for word how the teacher has planned it)

Review thoughts on Leaders.
Show children a Bible and discuss why Jesus was a leader.
(Then a website that doesnt work!!!!)
Read 'Jesus give people food, I can see and Jesus' Day Off' Lion bible.
Children to write about one of the stories explaining why Jesus was a special leader.
SEN draw a picture and write labels.

HOW BORING!!!! And i only have about 30mins after play to do this and to me i need to have time explaining more and getting feed back and understanding from them!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

And also.. if im bored im sure it will show!

Think I'd prob start with a review of leaders / leadership - use an analogy they'll probably know...

Yesterday we looked at how the headteacher leads the school... who can think of some other leaders and what they do? (generals in the army, head of the police, chief fireman, etc).

Move on to look at bible - who knows what this is? who can tell me about the characters in the bible? which of these are leaders?

Read the 1st & 2nd story, talk about how Jesus demonstrates he's a leader...

Read the last story together, ask the children to think about it themselves and write / draw a way in which he demonstrates leadership... what was special about it?

Find yourself another suitable website Smile

Thank u v much for that D, its v useful Smile Kind of wat i had in mind but wasnt sure on the wording and order to do it.

I was just going to focus on one story for them to write about, and not let them choose so its more controlled.

Im sure it will be fine.. next weeks is even worse!!

I am also supervising RE. Admittedly Year 6, but I am really enjoying it.
We are looking at the use of the ARTS in Religion
WK1 - listened to religious music. One slow, chanting, latin type and one
modern gospel pice (OH HAppy Day).

Asked children to review song (ensured 50/50 split). They had to say why they liked/disliked it. What they thought about when they heard the
music.

Then they drew a picture to go with it.

Plenary - How Music can help us think/reflect etc

Next week - Drama.

Read them a bible story. Small groups acted out story for other class (acting out a different story).

Plenary - How drama can tell a story better then jsut reading it.

Last week - Clothes/colours. Design a stole sing religious colours and
symbols.

Plenary - Religious clothing can be dramatic/tell a story and set a scene.
