Hi, just deciding whether to do hlta or not, would really like to specialise in numeracy and looked at what OU courses were available. I work in Primary but the only one I thought would be good looked more like Key stage 3.

Any ideas how I can be a better ta in Numeracy. School may be willing to pay for any relevant courses.

Hello, Have you checked your local council website/LEA? There are often funded (free) courses for numeracy etc.

I don't know of any specific courses off the top of my head but I am sure if you had a search on google you may find something.

OU E111 course covers numeracy as well as a range of other topics and is a lead into HLTA (it links to the standards of HLTA) so may be worth looking at.

Good luck

Hi

I'm starting HLTA course in January and was advised that I couldn't specialise in Numeracy, literacy or science (three core subjects) this was to be left to teachers! Embarassed I had to specialise in IT, language etc. Not sure if this is just a 'school specific thing?' Rolling Eyes

Good luck with your search. Very Happy
