Hi, I came across this forum while looking for help for an interview I've got . I've read some of the things posted (u can tell I'm new to forums, chatrooms etc ha ha) and some have helped but I was wondering if anyone can help me specifically.

I've got to take a book in and read to year 1s and then discuss it with them. Thats all they told me and I'm thinking discuss what?? This should last 10mins which isn't so bad. Can you tell I am a newly qualified TA with very little experience? I have read to children before and I enjoy it but what do I have to discuss? The story in general?

Does anyone have any ideas of any stories suitable for Y1s, and any ideas of what I should be discussing? This prob sounds like an incredibly simple task to experience TAs but I think I may be thinking about it too much. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Although I didnt have to do this to get my job alot of friends had to do this on their interview. Think they are looking for your interaction with the children. How you engage them, deal with any situations, include all the children. My friends read The Gruffalo, or the Gruffalos child (think this is a common one and others may pick it though). Id pick a book that had a good story, with different characters that you could change your voice to. Even have little puppets on sticks so that when you said each character the child with that one could hold it up/make its sound etc. Make sure you know the story well, have you got anyone to practise on? Good luck!

Currently employed as a level 2 TA in Foundaton Stage.I've an interview for NVQ3 TA in Foundation Stage within my existing school. I've been working in the unit for 2 yrs at L2 and now have the chance to be a L3. Only worries another 'qualified' L3 has appiled who works partime in the same school with yrs5/6 and has been in the same role for the last couple of years.
Any tips on how to secure my position. Help! Sad

Kim Lewis' books are good for discussing.
They want you to keep the children's interest and check their understanding.Ask the children questions.

'The Whale's Song' is also good as you can change your voice a lot. There is a new series about a tractor, can't remember what they are called I'm afraid.I briefly noticed them in the book shop but haven't read them.If in doubt ask in the library or if you have time go to a session in the library for children and pick up tips from the librarian.

I think Elmer is a good book for this type of thing. It's a good length and there's plenty of things to discuss. Its also very colourful and visual as well.

I love it Very Happy Very Happy
