Wow congratulations CFB very impressive.
I'm afraid I got my worst mark ever with a 65%. remember the discussion we had about including absolute and relative poverty... well I got slated for not covering it.... ah well spent ages thinking shall I go down that route or not and decided NOT TO !!!! never mind it's a learning curve and if it comes up in the exam....Well you learn by mistakes so i won't make that mistake in the exam lol |

Bluebell 65% is still a good pass and you should be proud I think what each tutor is looking for is very different as I didn't mention absolute and relative poverty directly. Good luck with your revision.

i have been looking at the question, what is a child? how do the three approaches attempt to answer the question.
i have my own ideas, but not sure if i am on the right lines, [particularly for the applied approach].
Can anyone offer me any pointers?
Thanks

Hi Chlo
As I see it off the top off my head, Scientific approach is concerned with development/stages and age Social construction looks at what a child is through focusing on diversity. cultural differences/ and historical context of westernised discourses and how they influence people's perception of what childhood is or should be. The applied approach takes note of both scientific and social construction in order to discuss debate policies and practice.
So as an example: I would use the Bulger case where kohlberg's moral development helped legislation to set the criminal age of responsibility to 10 yrs in the UK. But by looking at the SC perception that children's background/situations should be taken into consideration and that not all children develop at the same time, allowed the legal system[ which the applied approach are concerned with] to discuss how to deal with child murders. so although they were sentenced and punished by being sent to a secure unit the main aim was to rehabilitate then. this affected what happened to them when they turned 18.
So the applied approach is concerned with how the law deals with young children and what is most appropriate for their well being [how to turn them into competent citizens.
That's how I see it and an example I would use anyway???
Will do that question tonight. Was all set last night [hubby away for the night] then youngest daughter turned up, she went and the eldest one turned up!!!! So was 9.30pm before I was on my own.
Hubby home tonight so can keep the new kitten entertained and any company whilst I focus on my revision.
I am off for a week's residential next week with y6 and feel stressed out I will certainly have to take my books with me. Think I will put some notes for block two and whatever I decide to do on my Dictaphone and listen when ever I can on our long walks. might seem anti-social but for one year I don't care lol.

Hows the revision going CFB. Quite exhausted at the moment. Think I am okay with block one and the family in block two. Going to cover work and school in block 2, look at my TMA for notes for block 3 on TV and media then really need to get to grips with block 4 on poverty and health [my worst mark so need to look again at that. then cover adversity and HOPE I have covered enough to get through the exam.
have you stuck to themes or have you revised a broader theme?

I'm back Well I was very pleased with the questions and feel a lot happier than I did this morning. Think two of my answers are fine and one a bit dodgy but I'm not going to think about it now and just wait and see what my results are. Don't think there is any point worrying about it now.
Chlo and Bluebell I hope you did brilliantly. Give yourselves a massive pat on the back Oh well onto the next one (well maybe a little break is deserved!). Party time!!!

HI CFB
WHAT A RELIEF it's over! had a smile on my face when I saw the exam paper after I stopped shaking that it. me and Chlo went together and met up with someone else from tutorial so went over to Costa Coffee for an hour just chatting about anything but exam LOL.
got the wobblies but as soon as I saw a quetion on social construction I wrote out my little song to the tune of skip to my loo. got it all in. Did think I was going off course by talking about discourses but then realised they are related to social construction.
Block 4 I went for resilience and Adversity had my mmonic to hand so fine with that.
Block two threw me though couldn't answer anything on school or transition so went for number five. About historical.... and modern childhood. God knows what they wanted but I went off on childhood from 1800s to 2000 and tired to fit it around the question. It was in relation to block two sooooo who knows.
but all in all questions were good.
that's it until Feb till K203 starts haven't enrolled yet though.
Both me and Chlo came out smiling but hand ache!!!!!!!!!!!! phew!
Sounds like you did okay then. All our hard work paid off.
Thanks for your thoughts dancing Queen and buttercup much appreciated. |

Hi folks
I survived, but like Blubell said i was shaking like a leaf as well. Can't get over how quick the 3 hrs went.
i chose the question on resilience / adversity, the transition from childhood to adulthood and discourses.
Came out smiling, so not too bad. Feel a bit gutted though that my favourite topics didn't come up!
Roll on December. CFB, which questions did you go for?
