Hi all, need a little help as my brain has turned to mush.
Part 1 of tma says "describe the activity in terms of what you did and what the children did and said" word count 250 (ha ha).
Are you writing this like you might an observation saying what the children did
eg. child a picked up the pizza and pretended to cook it before giving it to child b to deliver.
Or are you writing how you set up the activity as in we got the pizza slices from the maths store to use in our pizza restaurant and the childrens ideas about this. (help i,m rambling and confusing myself again)
Does this make sense to anyone out there, I just can't get started on this one
As you may have guess my play activity was a pizza resaurant which came about after using pizza slices to explain fractions with y3
Any thought would be very welcome |

Hi Ggeni
I did a maths game 'doubling and halving' with 4 children. I am writing it as "we took the game to the staff room and the children took a board each then took it it turns, etc and what they said". I suppose its more of an observational write up as long as we put it what we did and what the children did. I am not referencing in this section either.
Hope this helps?!

Hi Louiw
I don't see why not, my tutor told me I did not have to be involved in the activity, just so long as I could write about the learning taking place.
I have to say I am really HATING this TMA
I am only half way through the play writing and it is total **** .
I think this one might take a bit of creativity to write it
Good luck with yours

If as you say it was free play then I think it would be an excellent thing to include as the emphasis is on spontaneous play not play dictated by adults
ggeni sorry you are finding this TMA hard work, I am sure it will all come together in the end |

I am just the same Louiw, sat here with all my books open, laptop ready, box of chocs, present from my lovely teacher as a thank you for all the cover I have been doing, pen poised yet still I find myself on here and not writing the TMA
I do now feel happier about what to write, but am sure this will be the worst one yet, still a pass will do. Just need to get writing
Good luck with yours

i enjoyed this assignment last year too. Don't forget you need to evaluate the activity so you can give comments on where and how it took place.
For instance My activities were a teacher planned literacy lesson involving role play with various props in the classroom. I evaluated that one on the basis that there were 30 children in the small space of the classroom and linked this to [class room without walls in that chapter] and how although it was a play activity it was led by an adult with an expected outcome.
I compared that activity with a creative problem solving one totally child led outside the classroom.
So there is room to critically evaluate what the activities were all about too.
We were encouraged to link previous topics into later TMAs too so if you get something in from previous chapters that will go in your favour too.
Hope this helps
