Hi
Been to visit a school that I've an interview for Nursery Assistant on Monday. The hours paid are exactly the hours the children attend. 8.45-11.15 & 12.45-3.15.

I asked the question what about set up, planning, display work etc and the break between sessions. My answer was they work to high scope ( I haven't come across this before) and the ladies who work in the nursery go home for the 11/2 dinner

I find this a bit bizzare as where I'm at now they get 15mins before and after session paid and 1hr of the session break paid for display, planning, set up etc or am I wrong is where I'm volunteering just lucky?

I really not sure about it all, the pay is so low that I couldn't really afford to be paying the diesel to ferry back and forth at lunch nor do I want to be sat on my own for that time either, how boring or i'll end up work some of it unpaid for something to do

Any opinion would be great I've been up hours thinking about it all

tricky one as i would feel the same about the long break if i wasnt close to home

are there any lunchtime jobs you could fill in with or would you not want to do that?

other option is to wait for another job to come along Confused

we don't get paid any extra for starting early or finishing late. It is a bone of contention at our school.

they rely on a lot of good will.

I do a lunch time duty covering a pupil with behavioural probs and get paid on a TA rate for that. This way I have 1/2 hr lunch and do 24 hours a week and don't work on a fri.

Can you go to the staff room and eat with the other staff. Our nursery runs on similar hours and staff start a bit earlier, don't get paid but often work through the lunch hour and work till 4pm setting up for the next day.

Thanks everyone

Been talking to the hubby and the low pay is quite a problem for us, especially as everything is sooooo expensive lately. I am unsure if I was fortunate enough to be offered the job I could afford to take it (even though it would be a good foot in the door). Without even thinking about the 11/2hours of limbo inbetween sessions

So dont know if it would be more considerate to decline interview, which would be very last minute (its on Monday) so the school isn't gonna be pleased or go and take it as interview experience

What a mess I am Embarassed

Go for the interview, give yourselfchance to ask if there is an opportunity to work some of the lunch and therefore earn more money
