...tomorrow.
supporting across 3 classes this year - 2 Y3's and a Y4. will be interesting as to how that will pan out. esp given that one of the teachers is very rigid in how she views my support in terms of time.
One of those classes is with a NQT. kind of looking forward to supporting her. I would imagine she's feeling anxious today too.
And the children of course. the reason why we are there. though sometimes its hard to know!
need to get my thoughts in gear, my bag packed though not sure what i need for an inset day. inset morning...for me at any rate. till half 1.
spect it will be better than what i anticipate. God i hope so...
Wishing others here returning tomorrow all the best too.

not looking forward to it either, as the first half term for me is always manic, with assesments, sorting student that need my support then managing up to 12 different timetables to fit those kids into my timetable!
but realised this morning how much i have missed the team i work with and the banter and continous 'putting in place' that goes on, so im hoping they are going to get me through the first week
and also looking forward to meeting my new students, some of who i interviewed and are very needy and thinking they may be a bit apprehensive too, so going to give them my best smile in the morning
also thinking of doing a course for me this year so want to have a look at whats on offer when i get back _________________

It's my 4 yr old that's worried. She does not want to start school and as we have moved house (back to UK from Germany) over the summer is feeling very unsettled and worried. She want's to go to school with her foundation stage friends and keep waking up in the night crying.
The reception class aren't starting until the 2nd week of term so I'm hoping we can go and meet the teacher and TAs and have a look round this week before she gets thrown in at the deep end so to speak.
I have spoken to the HT and found out that the class has 1 teacher and 3 TAs (any of you I wonder?) and is part of the foundation stage unit with the pre-school children. It sound good but it's scary being 4 (and only just 4 at that as she has a mid august birthday). _________________ Only dead fish go with the flow! |

It's the catchment school for my area but all the neighbours I've met with 4 yr olds are sending their children to other schools. There is another school very close that is popular but we are just outside the catchment area.
It's not a church school either. I'll ask next week whether they can give me any details of other local kids going to the school but I expect it would be a confidentiality issue and they won't give details.
Also forgot to say daughter is very very shy and reluctant to speak in new situations. She didn't speak for the first half term at pre-school and even by the end of the year was only confidant talking to other children and just spoke when she had to to staff. She hates being put on the spot and prefers to be left alone and will speak up when she is confidant in the situation. Worried that the stress of moving and starting school will shock her into becoming more shy and mute.

Can't say I'm excited about tomorrow either, dreading that new girl feeling and not knowing anyone. Looking forward to getting the first week out of the way.
Try not to worry too much colourful lady, we had a 3 year old boy in my old school who had come from India. His mum said he could speak English and spoke very fluently at home but he did not speak for 2 terms in school, he used to grab my face and pull it towards him and point to things. He was a lovely little boy and one day he just started speaking to everyone. He spoke when he was ready and was never pushed to in school, it was so lovely to hear his voice and now he speaks all the time. I'm sure your daughter will be fine and do things in her own time in school. I wish you and your little girl all the luck in the world.x |

Catbells - all the best for tomorrow, you will be great
DQ - go for it and do a course for you
Colourful Lady - I had your little one gets on OK, what DQ has said already is good advice, but also let the teachers?TAs know she doesn't like being put on the spot and hopefully they will be sympathic and give her the space she needs to settle in. 4yrs is far to young in my opinion, I was an August baby and in retrospect I can see why, in same ways, I found it hard; I have also seen it repeated in my youngest step who was lucky enough to be born on 31st Aug and prem too. On the plus side though, having known her since she was 7 she has made so much progress and is now, very confidently, going to college.
To all facing going back to work [including myself] good luck - I think we might need it |
