Here we go again more stratagies that we'll no doubt end up doing without any training. Evil or Very Mad

Teachers have a very good inkling which children will need the extra help at the end of the rec yr. Isn't that where we should be focusing any extra money and time. Before the children have too many years teaching to catch up on.

Does this mean that they will recruit extra TA's to cope with the extra workload? I bet it wont!!! I agree with you Tiki targeting foundation stage to help is the most effective way to go.
MP's are full of rhetoric but do they actually know what goes on in schools? I 'm not sure they always do or else the resources would be in place where the pupils need it most. Funding always seems to be a big isssue.

Totally agree Tiki. We have so many intervention programmes running at our place and most of them are run by T/As including me who havn't had the full training. I often feel we are only doing these things cause it ticks a box for ofstead. Experienced teachers and TAs know who needs support and what to focus on, we dont need yet more new initatives, let us do what we do best.

My school has a particular problem with literacy with the Y7s, as I believe a lot of schools do. I am pleased that this problem is going to be tackled head on at the lower key stages. However, the senior schools must not be forgotten as unless the literacy and numeracy skills are tackled in Y7 and 8 these students cannot access the curriculumn for GCSEs etc.

These learning difficulities - and they are learning difficulties - are being tackled head on at my school with all the TAs giving some of their time to support the allocated staff and the students, be it in other faculties or in the actual n & l lessons.

There is no quick fix, just long, hard, supportive work.
