Not sure if this is the right place for my topic, but has anyone used the SEAL programme to improve unwanted behaviour? _________________

yep I trialed in for the nurture group and next year it is being used by the whole school
I like it and some of the ideas and materials are good but i had to adapt it quite a bit to use with the nurture children to take into account their mixed age range and abilities _________________ Men are like a fine wine. Thanks DQ! Need to suggest something like SEAL or nurture group for my observed pupil. One of his problems is not wanting to share......major strop during my last observation because a boy wanted the piece of lego he wanted. _________________

It did help make the obs a bit juicier. It was in danger of becoming boring because I think he is getting better all the time. The other bonus was him calling out to the teacher who was reading a Big Book story, "I don't need you to read that out ot me, I can read it myself." She told him to come up and read and he read it word perfect. Words like mangoes, papaya, pineapple didn't trouble him at all. Not bad for a 4 year old eh? So my other line of strategy I think will be more challenging work _________________

Hi Summer! he is fluent with all the new text. He is on blue star books which equates to a reading age of 8 I think.
He has been observed by a behaviour management officer and they didn't mention ASD. _________________

could just be very bright and gets bored but just made me wonder with you saying he doesn't share, also him calling out to say the teacher didn't need to read it to him, could point to lack of empathy and social skills . _________________ Men are like a fine wine. From the obs I have done the key things have been:
not wanting to share
tries to dominate group activities
work doesn't challenge him enough
rushes work, takes no pride in it, just wants to get finished so he can play
constantly calling out
attention seeking "look, look, look" etc. prodding adults in the arm so they look at him.
I'm hoping that will be enough to address the following tasks:
1. Describe the needs of the pupil based on the observations
2. Two activities which would support the needs
3. Two strategies to encourage independent learning
4. Role of TA in encouraging independent learning of observed pupil
There is a lot more to the assignment, but these are the hardest for me to address because I have no knowledge of reception class work. _________________
