I've started this thread so that we can admire all JD's Shetlands photos uninterrupted by chat.

Now to remember what photos I've posted!

Cliff photo (natural history thread) - Eshaness (top left of main island)
Sailing boat (picture postacrds thread)- Aith (middle main island)
Clickimin broch - Lerwick(picture postacrds thread) (main town, halfway down main island on left)
Sunset 1 and 2 - Voe
Sunset 3 - between Brae and Voxter
Lighthouse - Muckle Flugga, northern tip of Unst (top island)
Beach - Skaw, Unst (just north or Norwick on the map)
Boat - as above
House - Norwick, Unst
Room with a view - near Otterswick, Yell (next island down from Unst)
Gossabrough beach - near Otterswick
Peats - Yell, but could be anywhere!
Skua and eider photos, north Unst
Boat trip photos, around Lerwick harbour
Noss photos - outermost island from Lerwick

Went to Unst, most northerly inhabited island in the UK today, as you may have guessed! Weather was variable, as you can tell but I took LOADS of pics - a very small selection is on show here!

Another island (called Yell) which you have to travel across to get to Unst, it is the island of my husband's birth.

Room with a view (my hubby's mother used to visit this house in the summer as a child, not much left of it now):

Gossabrough beach:

peats 'raised' for drying, still cut and burnt here as fuel by some people:

These are the faceless photos from the birthday trip:

The island of Noss, a nature reserve reached by ferry to one island then car or bus(only on the open day) to a steep hill and a rubber dinghy to get to Noss.

More lovely pictures from JD

My youngest son and I went to the island of Mousa (

)to visit the broch and the wildlife. The broch was built over 2000 years ago and is (I think) over 13 metres tall with a double wall. Inside there are the remains of a later wheelhouse. You can go up steps in between the walls to the top. The opinion of a 12 year old? "Brilliant!"

The broch:

Another 3 great pictures from JD. I've already got plans to use the sky pictures for art.
