For a 'quickie' cover it in black sugar paper, get the kids to cut out snowflakes one wet playtime (you know- when you fold and snip away) and staple them up. Or cut out a Christmas tree shape and get them to decorate with sweet wrappers (quality street or roses etc I can eat them for you if you like!), shiny paper streamers etc.

I loved Beammeups window so much that I'd like to thank both her and mother goose for inspiring my latest lunchtime project with the child I support. Due to medical reasons I spend around 40 minutes each lunchtime with parent and child and I have been trying to vary activities to support fine motor development and I have been trying to come up with craft activities to contribute to this.

Our first project was to make a floral picture with tissue paper 'scrumplings' and the next was christmas card involving fringing and finger painting which was copied from the childs own Christmas Activity book. Seeing the window display inspired me to come up with an art project that not only would include cuting, fingerpainting etc, but would also be used to decorate the room which we use. The 'work is still in progress, but features a wintery scene, in this case a pine forest with finger painted snow laden branches and will have 'snipped' snowflakes in the foreground. Depending on how it comes along I am now thinking of maybe turning it into a window too...keep the great ideas coming folks!!

evening all
I have been in education foe 12 yrs and only just discovered my love for making role-play areas,
My last one was an anderson shelter that could fit 6 kids in when the siren went off, we had some brilliant writing from it (y2).
My latest is a French cafe (linking up with MFL), a window looking out at the Eifel tower (inspired by beameup), french menu/flags, red ginham table cloths. The Head was so impressed, she let me spend loads at the ELC for plasic food etc.
When its up and running after xmas, we are gonna use m/wave to warm up coisannts and include maths/literacy etc. the kids can't wait for the official opening of 'Le Petit Cafe'

hi val

our year 7 ran a breakfast cafe and it was great. they had all the usual food and drinks, made up menus and pictures. you can really go to town with this idea, adding up money and everything else and introducing the language..

when are we coming down for a cafe au lait...........??

That is one of the best things about forums( apart from chatting to great people). You get to spread ideas and good practice. I feel really proud that you like my display and likewise, I have picked up some fantastic ideas from all you. dance

No, the first thing she saw when she landed was one of those nodding dogs in the back of a car.
