We recently got a new Head who insists we change and take an active part in P.E. Up to now this has been valuable time to do jobs without children. Anyone else in the same position? (Year 2 & 3 pupils)

Two years ago our head ensured that we were working with children 100% of the time even had to go into assembly with the teacher and sit there! During PE etc we were delegated to another class. Caused so much friction because everyone was trying to get 'jobs' done during class input time etc etc

Lots of TA turn over since

We also have to be involved with PE, and during assembly TA's stay while teachers play catch up.... Then we are asked to fit this n that into our already full schedule... Im praying to God tonight for more hours in the day n thats just so I can do my washing.... but there again I could take it across to nursery and do it during my lunch hour.... :s

We are asked to join in when one of the children needs help (possibly statemented) or sometimes just at the beginning at end when the children are changing (to help with buttons, laces etc)

I think thats fair enough. If they are young or have difficulties then I have always helped perhaps you could say "When they become independent shall I go back to my usual timetable as the teacher and I find this invaluable.'
