HI

I have applied for a number of ta jobs and a few lsa jobs and I have found out that one of the schools has requested a reference. I have not heard anything from them I simply no cos the referee is my best friends Mum as a personal one.

So do you think this is a good sign or is this routine for Ta/lsa positions?

Then should I be so lucky, I have to get through an interview which on reading about it all here sounds absolutely terrifying?

Thanks

All schools can differ. I have had them ask for references but not give an interview or give an interview before getting a reference.

Have you supplied an employers details too? It may be that is sufficient and they don't need the personal one.

The guide lines recommend that no reference is is opened till after interviews. This is supposed to give all applicants an equal footing. It is a recommendation only and sometimes not followed.

The fact that a reference has been sent for is a good sign. When is the closing date. You'll not normally hear if you're going to be interviewed till after that date and you won't necessarily hear anything if you've not being called forward.

The closing date is tomorrow.
I gave them a past employer, I don't work at the moment. So they have them both available, I ticked they could contact before any interview etc, I just thought it must be a good sign cos if there asking for references already?? NOt sure though.

I guess I'll here soon enough if there is any interview date.

I'd say it was likely a positive sign, if they were not interested on receipt of your application they wouldn't have gone for the references. Keeping my fingers crossed for you........... keep us updated Very Happy

Thanks guys.

I just hope it comes through, I'm a bit worried now though cos if I'm lucky enough to get through to interviews, I'm worreid about getting down there, it's about 200 miles away as I'm re-locating and my temporary housing has fallen thorugh, so I hope they want me so much they won't see this as a problem, BUT it's beginning to look more and more unlikely??

Oh well what wil be will be!

It sounds reasonably positive as I have been on interview panel and we just binned some, then a pile of possibilities and some definites. Very Happy Good Luck. Just tell them you are wanting to re-locate lots of people do. A friend has just done that and there was no problem at the interview. If you are prepared to go or think through how much time you need a month isn't unreasonable, before interview. I would try and get down the day before so you are relaxed and check out the estate agents before interview so if the ask you can say it's in hand. Smile

Usually send a letter. You could always phone to check. The secretary will know. You could say you are applying for several jobs and would therefore like to know as soon as possible to organise transport and combine several interviews if possible. She can then confirm if you have been short listed.

I considered that, But didn't want to appear naggy! I guess I could say I had an interview elsewhere and would like to combine dates.

I'll keep you all posted this is like the worst wait ever! LOL, Well unless I have an interview and then have to wait to see if i have it or not

a little late and off topic (lol).. but I find it so interesting to see how things are done so differently in other countries. Over here, you never give references until after the interview. And even then, they only call those people if you're being seriously considered for the position which makes it MUCH easier if your current employer doesn't know you're thinking about leaving. This way, if after the interview you already know you don't want the job, you don't give the reference. It also makes it nice because if you hear from your references that they got the call you know you'll be offered the job Smile (unless someone says something bad about you! lol)
