Very Happy hi

Recently started as a TA in Reception class, and one of the duties that the TA had was taking a lower ability group of 4 boys every morning to help bring them on.
She was doing 2 activities with the group each morning about 10-15 minutes long i.e

Letters

letter tracing
magnetic letters

Words

Flash cards
word pairs

i'm not saying that these things are not suitable but i would like to make it more my own Confused if you know what i mean !

It's not just phonics it's also letter formation and recognition

I personally think that these words are being learnt purely on repition and not on their phonic knowledge

any ideas welcome

thanks kerryl

Do both.......... some sight words......play bingo. Jimbo loved this and learnt some quite difficult words this way.Do they use Jolly Phonics? You can get books from ELC now. I use these for the writing and have colourful stamps for trying. I also make each set into a little book to take home when they have achieved knowing and writing the sound. you could make a patience game with the word pairs and play snap too. They will learn quickly because they want to win. As long as it's fun you will all enjoy it.

bingo is great, if you make up basic boards/cards and laminate them and when they answer a question correctly they get to cover a number

then it can be used to cover all subjects as you have the basic items already, just make the questions to fit what you are learning at that time, so can use for spelling, maths. answering questions about a subject such as geography/history etc....
