Today i have had a complaint against me made to our HT. My crime was..............I TOOK THE CHILDREN OUTSIDE IN THE RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*hangs head in shame*
It was not a torrential downpour like we have had the last few weeks, it was spitting!!!!
Our HT was great and tried to explain about our outdoor policy, but the parent couldnt believe i would take them out in the rain. The children all had coats on and we were only out 20mins!!!
What is wrong with these parents? Would they rather we sat them down in front of a DVD all day like they do, or would they rather we gave them fresh air and the chance to experience the weather???????
When will these parents learn that their children will not melt, rust, fade away or catch a horrible disease just by playing in the rain!!!!!!!!!!!
Any answers gratefully received |

I have no problem with taking the children out, sensibly seems to depend on how hardy the staff are at our school......
Unless they have a medical problem (like Lucybelle describes and which the school should be aware of)it won't do them any harm _________________

I regularly send the children out at lunch whilst its spitting, the only complaints I have are from my Mid-days !
That said, if the playground's slippy I keep the Reception class in as they tend to fall over more. The TA in that class usually takes them out later.
It does amaze me though how many parents, even this week when its been cold and wet have sent their children to school without coats _________________

Just thought i would let you know, the parent who complained about me came in today to apologise!!!
Said she had over reacted (slight under exageration there eh!) and she was really sorry. She said she realises that if she had a problem she should have talked to me about it. She also said that she hoped she hadnt got me in any trouble (AS IF!!!)
So that's it really, all over, three weeks to go and counting.
Thanks for all your comments, its just nice to know that when you feel like youre banging your head on a brick wall, there is somewhere to let off steam. I have tried in the past to talk to my hubby about work, but i think if you dont work in school you really cant understand what we are up against!!!!!!
Thanks again xx |

*Gasp* They might melt!!!
In all seriousness I agree with you...
Oh - and I prefer to see it as 2 weeks and 5 days (school days) rather than 3 weeks. _________________

Makes you wonder smoggy ......what happens when they take the child shopping and it rains do they go straight home even if they haven't finished shopping? I'm all for fresh air. Once had a picnic in the rain! We had just started to eat it when it started to rain, all the tourist rushed to their cars. Friend and I looked at the kids, looked at each other and decided a bit of rain was better than sitting in the car steaming up windows. The boys had been looking forward to the picnic. They had wellies and raincoats on because of where we live(high rainfall)so stayed put had a memorable picnic as the ducks came to splash in the puddles and eat the boy's crusts. They were delighted and friend and I still talk about that picnic. Enjoyed watching all the tourist's windows steaming up they looked at us as we were quite mad, which we are. It was just fine drizzle. |
