Yup - her son is in yr 2 at a school in Wales ... In Reception, they went to school in joggers on PE days .... After that, parents were advised the kids would take off outer clothing and do PE in the vests and knicks.

Yesterday, after PE he told her they had to do it in their underpants only (girls could wear vests). She was going to see a parent governor about it this afternoon, I think.

When the PE kit issue was raised with school last year, the reason they were given was it takes up too much time ....

At my school, Reception kids start off just taking shoes off, but after a few weeks progress to using the PE kit.

Shorts & T-Shirts here all the way through school... jumpers allowed if cold(ish) outside... too cold and we don't do anything.

As for the PE in pants/vest or bare chested, yes, there are several schools in this area that also, with the 'young uns' do pe in underwear and indoor games in shorts/plymsols only for older (yr 3+) (<--boys, girls required to wear a vest).

I seem to recall a similar thing popping up on 'the other' forum, centred on a Welsh school, with a variety of explanations given, including, time lost from lesson in changing, cost of separate pe kit, health & safety issues around 'loose' clothing.
