Please please can anyone help me? Im working in a school and we hav a TA that is absent-having difficulty getting a good supply to cover so I suggested that I could cover. I work in the school doing 24 tasks and in the past have done intervention programs..els, brp, maths springboard, getting along and supported classes when ofsted was in. I also have gone on a residential weekend with 6 other members of staff for the last 3 years but have been told by our head that no I cant as Im not qualified and that there is already big issues in the school and the unions wouldnt be happy. The rest of the staff would be pleased if I did it as they know that it would mean they get good support. A friend of the deputy head covered for the absent TA and I dont think she is a TA she has a CCE but I dont know what this means can anyone explain and is she ok to act as a TA? We also have a lunchtime supervisory assistant that takes a group of children everyday for als and she has no qualifications-I am doing my Cache Level 3.

All sounds a bit confused. The Ht can employ anyone they want in the classroom to assist (TA). Perhaps they have had issues with someone in the past and do not want to be accused of being in danger of a repeat??

Thanks veggie and trueblue! I do belong to a union and as soon as I get all my facts together I will be contacting them. I have also been on the net and I think that the CCE stands for Certificate in Childcare and Education and the jobs you can go for are nursery assistant and pre-school assistant etc covering children birth to 7years and 11 months. The children the absent TA covers are year 3 and 4, the children dont know her and she doesnt know any of the strategies in key stage 2. Where as I do! Forgot to say that I was involved in a grievance 2 years ago against the head along with 13 other members of staff(9 teachers and 5 support staff) We only had 11 teachers and 11 support staff( 3 had only been employed for about 2 months at this time). So maybe this is why he is being like this with me ha ha!! The head wasnt removed and we spent last day of term(christmas)being interviewed by county and governors. He is still with us and still continues to be unprofessional, a bully and to treat us(grievance staff) and them differently. He doessnt seem to be bothered that they dont do any work and we are all hard working and commited to the children.

She can cover with that certificate but should not be left on her own with a class although it is at the head's discretion.

Thanks for the reply Jack of all trades but that means that she cant take a group of children out to do maths springboard as this is what the absent TA does and I have done this intervention programme in the past....I have nothing against this girl so please dont get me wrong and It may seem like I'm moaning over nothing but my arguement is with the HT!
