Hi all,
Now I am coming to the end of E111 thinking about what next. I had originally planned to do an open degree, but am now wondering if a named degree possibly Youth and childhood would be better. Trouble is not sure what I will use the degree for when completed, so thought to leave my options open.
Has anyone else gone down the open degree route, is it as widely recognised as the OU say. Don't want to spend the next 4/5 years working for something that will not be recognised by employers.
Any thought would be welcomed Confused

I think it does all balance on what you want the degree for ggeni. I went for the childhood and youth studies option at first but quickly realised that a psychology degree would be more appropriate for my future plans (either education psychologist or working in some way towards better awareness and education for children with SEN)

Look at what the recommended courses are for the childhood degree and see if they are ones you would want to do, I do not know a lot about open degrees, but someone else may be able to give you more info. The OU advisers are also good so you could call or email them.

My partner has an open degree with the OU and has gone on to become a lecturer at a local FE college. She did have a history slant to it but is now a literacy specialist so I do think they are fairly widely accepted. Smile
