I have just started the reading for this, any useful advice from anyone? It is the one about identifying 5 criterias for an inclusive setting and relating it to a video band to illustrate my argument. I am still waiting for 02 result so I am not sure what to concentrate on yet and the assignment seems rather daunting, although I'm sure it will become clearer as I read more.

Also, where did you all find your person to interview for the ECA? I am struggling with this and have to submit the proforma with this TMA!

I remember having a great tutorial for this one but don't seem to have the notes on the computer anymore.
Anyway Our tutor gave us a list of statements to choose from and said if we used them we wouldn't go wrong.
here are three of them the other two I made up myself as I thought of situations I could use myself.

Each child has opportunities for informal and formal consultations so that they can express their views and opinions on sessions they take part in and on the setting as a whole

• Barriers to learning and participation are minimised and the needs of individual learning styles are recognised.

• . Fostering collaboration between pupils should be seen as important as encouraging independence.

Anyway what I did to begin with [as we were advised to do and I got 85% for this one so must have been on the right lines] is list the five criteria first. Tutor said if you do it this way it automatically picks up marks straight away and is like an introduction to what you are going to discuss.

Then I took each criteria in the order of the list and Discussed the statement, using my own examples/ experience from my setting, linking them up with legislation [such as things like the 'Index For Inclusion documents..... etc....... and linking in evidence from course book/video.

Hope this makes a bit of sense.

I used a parent at my school who has a disabled child in school. I interviewed her before we broke up for the summer holiday so that I could work on the interview during the summer.

I used a tape recorder after asking her permission and put this in my plan along with TMA03.

Knowing this parent I KNEW we had different perspectives [from private discussions over the years. However when it came to the interview she gave me loads of answers she thought I would want [basically agreeing with me] so to be quite honest I had to reword a lot of it to make it seem like we had different views.. PHEW! I hated that one!

i remember my tutor saying that not all the views of your interviewee had to be different from yours as long as you discuss and use the course materials

im sure Bluebell sent me the notes she had, i will have a look through my OU stuff later and see what i have

That's great, thanks. It seems more clear now! Just need to find a willing volunteer to interview! I'm going to start asking friends next!

Dancing queen Yes I would have to agree with you that not all views have to in contrast.
However the parent I interviewed knew her rights, to the point that I often felt she dictated how the child's day was to be conducted [shouldn't say that and didn't say that in assignment] and from my view made all the decisions for said child to a point where he had no voice himself.
Suppose you could link it to the charity discourse]

I suppose one of my arguments was that during the annual review[ child was 10 years old] the child wasn't invited to it on the basis mum didn't think it was constructive due to the things being discussed. Where as I quoted the Code of practice...... children being involved in decisions that affect their lives. etc........

I do know that there are considerations to be made ie type of things being discussed [medical needs etc.....] but I got a good discussion going for the ATM so that was the main point.

And you do have to show that even though your views may differ you do understand other perspectives.
